i respond well to criticism

alex made me do this post so dont blame me if it sucks

i was actually just thinking about how i wish i had a more detailed account of my year written somewhere. like, i wish someone wrote down my thoughts as I went through the day and then i could review at the end of the week. I bet i'd be like, what?! i thought that! no way! and i bet thered be long periods of time where i didnt think anything at all, and i'd be so ashamed of myself.

Do you ever think about how your mind is always working, and always thinking? I would like to contest that point. Because if your mind is not working and you aren't thinking, how would you know that it wasn't thinking? you cant create a memory out of nothing, because if you DID have a memory it would at least be "i wasn't thinking anything" as opposed to " ........... " which is not a memory. Thus, nobody knows if your mind is always working.

that is my little philosophical point. additionally, i dont care what an fMRI says. Just because it lights up all the time doesnt mean anything, its just a measure of blood flow, and your brain has to constantly be receiving oxygen. besides nobody even knows if fMRI is legit. (I happen to be on the side that believes its a bunch of bologna. a giant metallic magnetic piece of bologna. the only thing its good for is detecting massive brain abnormalities and tumors). I just read that over and it realized it makes no sense if you dont work with fMRI -- MRI lights up a region of the brain that is supposedly responsible for whatever it is you're thinking. Like, the hippocampus lights up for spatial memory, the amygdala lights up for fear, sex, pleasure, visual cortex lights up for vision, etc. so if you take an MRI of someone at rest who is supposedly "not thinking" there are always regions of the brains that light up. BUT mri is measured via strength of blood flow, so its not actually measuring thinking, its measuring the amount of blood directed to a particular area of the brain. it IS a rough estimate of brain areas that are working the hardest but it doesnt really mean anything beyond that.

that was just a little mental tangent. it doesnt make any sense. dont worry about it.

our tire went flat. there was a nail in it. now we're waiting to get it fixed. lame.

ummmm what else. i still havent decided on a camera. i'm turning 23 in a few days! yay! 23!!! thats, like, a 1- 2 punch. this blog probably doesnt make any sense to anyone but me.

on public transportation

this really gets me.

raleigh durham chapel hill is a hugely growing metro area. and their public tranport systems suck. First of all, there are, like, ten different bus systems that go through the area. second of all, it takes forever to get anywhere. third, its SO CONFUSING and horribly inefficient AND EXPENSIVE!!!! IT COSTS TWO DOLLARS PER RIDE!!!! thats absurd.

raleigh, durham, chapel hill should get together and create some sort of workable, efficient public transport that everyone would use (not just poor people like me and my neighbors) that services all of raleigh durham and chapel hill. Chapel Hill's buses, in addition, are all free and work magically. in durham only poor people use the data buses, and pretty much the same goes for Raleigh. And they should use ONE system. not ten. one system, one map. Just, like, a super sweet subway system, only in electrical bus form.

thats the other thing -- why aren't buses run by huge rechargeable batteries? it seems like that shouldnt be so difficult. and they should revamp their bike lanes, and have really sweet bike storage places at the major bus stop points. it could be so cheap. raleighs not poor, esp not with this growing population.

oh but what i would love is a fantastic subway service. I fantasize of the Madrid days...and granted they have a population about four times the size of ours but still. I fantasize.

eeek

I miss my friends from college. *sigh*

so my mom said she'd buy me a camera for my birthday. Its unbelievable how the price of cameras has gone down, plateaud (plateud, plataeud, plateu - d? ??? ) really, after a certain amount of technological innovation.

For instance. I'm looking at buying either a Casio Exilim 10.1 mp camera with 4x optical zoom for 200 dollars, or a Kodak Z something with 12 MP! AND 5X OPTICAL ZOOM! INCREDIBLE! for about the same price. And they're these small compact cameras. I can't even believe it. I paid the same price two years ago for a 4.5 mp 3x zoom. And now. 12 mp. it doesnt even matter that it exists. 12mp cant be any different than 10 mp, right? but i feel like i should buy the 12.

okay lets discuss the technological plateau. When does it plateau? It seems as though the camera market is either plateauing or will be continually decreasing in price from here on out, as the upward slope in tech design hits its asymptote and companies begin finding out ways to make the product cheaper. My goal is to get in on said products on this mesa. Computers, cameras, printers. p.s. i am dismally disappointed in the quality of laptop computers. they should be way better, way more varied, than they are now.

Why dont they offer them in colors other than black silver and white? stupid mass consumerism. and why dont they turn into small furry animals so you can play with them, form an attachment, instead of being this boring hunk of metal and plastic all the time? and why arent they waterproof? this is a serious issue. they should def be waterproof. and stainproof. and they should be impervious to the outdating problem, constantly updating their hardware via software. i know thats impossible. but nothing is REALLY impossible. Is it?

another thing.

I did this earlier.

Why do people say "my mom" or "my dad". its so possessive. they could just as easily say "Mom", the same way one would say "clare". everyone knows they're talking about their mom. nobody is confused about whose mother is being talked about. but still everyone is saying MY MOM or MY DAD but really that would only apply if they were only children.

umm, thats it.
